Seller Terms & Purchasing Process

We Are a Buyer, Not an Appraisal Service

The Costume Jewelry Buyer purchases jewelry and other accepted property for resale.

Any purchase offer we make represents the amount we are willing to pay for the property and is not an independent appraisal or determination of fair market value, retail value, replacement value, insurance value, or auction value.

There is no obligation to accept an offer.
 

Preliminary Review

Information, descriptions, and photographs provided before shipment are used only to help us determine whether we are interested in examining a collection.

A preliminary review does not constitute a purchase offer, appraisal, guarantee of value, or guarantee that we will purchase the collection.

Final purchase decisions and offers are made only after we have physically received and examined the property.

Please do not send jewelry or other property to us unless we have invited you to do so and provided shipping instructions.
 

Seller Ownership & Authority

By submitting or sending property to The Costume Jewelry Buyer, you represent that:

• You are at least 18 years old.

• You are the lawful owner of the property or have legal authority to sell it on behalf of the owner or estate.

• The property is not stolen.

• The property is not subject to an undisclosed ownership dispute, lien, security interest, or other claim that would prevent you from legally selling it.

• Information you provide about the property is accurate to the best of your knowledge.

We reserve the right to request identification or additional information when necessary and to decline any transaction.
 

Shipping Your Collection

Sellers are normally responsible for the initial cost of shipping a collection to us.

If we purchase your collection, we will reimburse the standard inbound shipping cost agreed upon with us before shipment.

Expedited shipping, additional insurance, special packaging, packing services, or other additional shipping expenses will not be reimbursed unless approved by us in advance.

For certain qualifying collections, we may elect to provide a prepaid shipping label.

Sellers are responsible for packaging their property securely and following any shipping instructions we provide.

Shipping carriers are independent third parties. Carrier loss, delay, or damage may be subject to the carrier's applicable terms, insurance coverage, and claims procedures.
 

Our Purchase Offer

After receiving and physically examining your collection, we may make an offer to purchase some or all of the submitted property.

You are free to accept or decline our offer.

Our offers may take into consideration factors including condition, age, maker, authenticity, desirability, marketability, anticipated resale value, processing costs, and our existing inventory.

Because we purchase property for resale, our purchase price will generally be lower than the price for which an individual item might ultimately be offered or sold at retail.
 

If You Accept Our Offer

If you accept our purchase offer, we will issue payment using the payment method agreed upon with you.

Any agreed reimbursement for standard inbound shipping will be included or paid in connection with the transaction.

Upon completion of the agreed sale and payment, ownership of the purchased property transfers to The Costume Jewelry Buyer.

We may thereafter retain, resell, repair, clean, restore, group, separate, or otherwise dispose of purchased property at our discretion.
 

If You Decline Our Offer

You are under no obligation to sell your property to us.

If you decline our purchase offer and would like your collection returned, you are responsible for the cost of return shipping.

We will provide information regarding the applicable return-shipping arrangements.

Please remain responsive to communications regarding your property. Property that cannot be returned because the seller cannot be contacted, fails to provide necessary return information, or fails to arrange required return shipping will be handled in accordance with applicable law.
 

Items We May Decline

Submission of a collection does not guarantee that we will purchase it.

We may decline individual items or entire collections for any reason, including condition, age, authenticity concerns, insufficient resale demand, excessive quantities of modern jewelry, or items outside our area of interest.
 

What We Specialize In

Our primary specialty is vintage costume jewelry.

Collections occasionally contain sterling silver, gold, watches, fine jewelry, or other items mixed with costume jewelry. You do not need to identify or separate these items before contacting us.

Any such items will be considered according to the nature of the individual collection and applicable purchasing requirements.
 

Cleaning & Condition

Please do not aggressively clean, polish, repair, alter, or restore vintage jewelry before submitting it.

Normal age-related wear, missing stones, broken pieces, single earrings, and other imperfect items may still be of interest to us.

We evaluate collections in the condition in which they are received.
 

No Guarantee of Value

Vintage costume jewelry varies considerably in desirability and resale value.

Age alone does not establish monetary value, and a maker's name, material, family history, previous purchase price, or sentimental value does not guarantee a particular purchase or resale value.

Our decision to make or decline an offer should not be interpreted as an independent determination of an item's value.
